Seniors are not the only students who are concerned about college. The pressure of compiling a pristine application is also on the shoulders of students in lower grades, sophomores. Sophomores classes gathered in the main theater Nov. 15 during eighth hour for an introduction to college assembly.
Guest speaker Ms. Maria Furtado, executive director of Colleges That Change Lives, an organization that helps students achieve higher education, engaged students with information about preparing for college and taking advantage of high school activities. She gave insight on getting accepted to the college of one’s choice, and pressed students to start considering which colleges to apply to. She encouraged students to do what they love and get good grades, while not sacrificing leisure. Students who attended the assembly also participated in an activity where Ms. Furtado asked a question and students had to respond with a specific action if their answer was yes.
“The assembly really helped me gain more knowledge on college. I think it helped me understand the process and where I might want to go in the future,” sophomore Sophia Ashiqueali said.
Ms. Furtado also hosted sophomore college parent night at 7 p.m. where similar information was provided for parents.
