Meet the 2019-2020 Staff

Joanne Haner
Editor-in-Chief

Joanne is a senior at American Heritage School in Plantation, Fla. As a third-year staffer and second-year editor-in-chief, Joanne loves immersing herself in the journalistic field and writing for her publications. Outside of newspaper, she is also co-president of the English Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta math team, where she also serves as the student delegate state secretary. Among the other clubs she is a part of, Joanne is also secretary of the linguistics team and Chinese Honor Society, as well as treasurer for Quill and Scroll. In her free time, she loves practicing her photography and going to concerts.

Kayla Rubenstein
Assistant Editor-in-Chief

As a junior, Kayla Rubenstein spends her third year on staff as Assistant Online Editor in Chief and Business Manager of iPatriot Post and the Patriot Post, respectively. Outside room 9114, Kayla acts as the co-historian of NHS and as a member of Quill and Scroll, EHS and SNHS. Kayla spends her free time making travel plans for the future, bugging her younger brother and binge watching Criminal Minds. Additionally, Kayla loves to read and often writes book reviews to release the mix of emotions most books give her. However, don’t ask Kayla what her favorite book is; she’ll give you an hour-long breakdown of her top reads in each genre.

Maia Fernandez Baigun
Print Co-Editor-in-Chief

Maia Fernandez Baigun has been on the Patriot Post staff for three years and is the Co-Editor-in-Chief. She loves design, photography and everything related to music. Maia is also the historian for National Honor Society and the Vice President for Save the Memories. In her free time, if she has any, Maia can be found on Spotify, making one too many playlists or taking photos.

Kristen Quesada
Print Co-Editor-in-Chief

Kristen is a senior at American Heritage School in Plantation, Fla. She is the co-Editor-in-Chief of The Patriot Post, President of Student Government and co-founder of the non-profit Friends for Fosters. Kristen loves keeping up with politics, watching Netflix, reading and sleeping in. She considers herself a nerd due to her massive video game and comic collection.

Alyssa Herzbrun
Assistant Print Editor-in-Chief, Opinion/Editorial Editor

Alyssa Herzbrun, a senior at American Heritage, is in her third year of newspaper. She currently edits the opinion section of the newspaper and is a Co-Assistant Editor-in-Chief. On the weekends, Alyssa loves to volunteer at places like Broward Outreach Center, Ronald McDonald House and Feeding South Florida. Alyssa is an avid reader. Over the summer she read a book every day but school is interfering with her reading streak. She also loves to clog (not the toilet but the dance). Alyssa is looking for a great year and hopes to meet many opinionated people.

Zoe Persaud
Assistant Print Editor-in-Chief, News Editor

As Copy Editor and News Editor of the Patriot Post, junior Zoe Persaud spends most of her time staring at a computer and rewriting sentences. She serves as Junior Class Director of Key Club and actively participates in English Honor Society, TASSEL and National Honor Society. Outside of school, she volunteers at her local library and tries to sleep for as long as she can.

Bella Ramirez

Bella Ramirez, junior, is a Marvel fanatic and hardworking leader. You can find her panicking over deadlines for her four publications (Pressing the Future, Patriot Post, French Newspaper and WAHS) or planning presentations for Key Club most days. When she’s not working then, well, she’s always working. Beyond journalism, she pursues film through directing, producing and writing. She’s excited to present her first feature film in 2019 and its sequel in 2020.

Emma Remudo is a junior at American Heritage School in Plantation Fla. and features editor of the Patriot Post. Outside of newsmagazine, she is secretary for Future Business Leaders of America and outreach director for TASSEL Florida. In her free time, she enjoys window shopping at Home Goods and trying vegan foods.

Sammy Rosenthal is a junior at American Heritage School in Plantation Fla. and is entering his third year writing for the newsmagazine; his first year as the publication’s Sports Editor. Sammy takes pride in being a die-hard Miami Heat and Dolphins fan as well as dedicating his Sunday to watching football.

This is her second year on staff and she is so excited for the many amazing things to come for this school year for the Patriot Post. Madison is also a member of TASSEL and Best Buddies club. Emily Anderson
Staff Writer

As a junior at Heritage, Emily Anderson is trying to face high school as best as she can. At school, Emily can be found playing violin in the orchestra, attempting to recruit members into Dead Poets Society, and frantically sprinting from the 9000 to get to her class on the other side of campus. Outside of school, Emily enjoys writing poetry, repeatedly watching the same movies, and partially succeeding in her goal of reading five books a week.

Sebastian Figueredo

Sebastian is a junior at American Heritage School in Plantation, Fla. and a first-year staffer for the Patriot Post. As an active member of the Pre-Medical Society at Heritage, French Honor Society and the Vice-President of the new AHS Book Club, he is glad to broaden his horizons and branch into the world of publications. His passions include creative writing, literature and he loves the arts, especially film and music. He can’t wait for a great first year.

Jack Shechtman

Jack is a junior and a new addition to the newsmagazine staff. Outside of writing for the sports section, Jack has been a starter on the varsity lacrosse team since his freshman year, as well as being an active fisherman. Jack is in a few clubs outside of the school and plans on going to college at his dream school, The University of Michigan.

Diana Adams
Adviser

As the supreme ruler and queen of The Patriot Post, Ms. Diana Adams has taught English and journalism at American Heritage for 24 years and started The Patriot Post 22 years ago with only 4 students. In addition to the print and online newspapers, she advises yearbook and literary art magazine as well as teaches journalism and creative writing. All four publications have won numerous awards over the years. Ms. Adams also advises the National Honor Society and Quill and Scroll Society. She is a member of DAR and Phi Kappa Phi, and has hosted international students in her home the past 15 years. In her rare free time, she enjoys reading science fiction and mysteries.
