in Entertainment by

Walking down palm-tree lined streets in marvelous Miami weather on the way to the newly built Donna E. Shalala student center sounds like paradise, and luckily for us, it is only 35 milessouth of Plantation. The University of Miami (UM) boasts stunning scenery in the heart of one of South Florida’s most elite neighborhoods: Coral Gables. From student life to academics, UM offers students the best of both worlds.

UM houses 11 schools and colleges and offers more than 180 undergraduate majors ranging from astronomy to music studio. Students interested in pre-professional programs can take part in UM’s pre-law and pre-health tracks which equip students with the necessary tools to succeed in graduate studies. The pre-health track, depending on one’s major, allows students to participate in honors programs in which students can work with faculty on professional research projects.

Seventy five percent of classes have fewer than 27 students and 50 percent of classes have fewer than 17 students. The university boasts a 12:1 student-faculty ratio to ensure every student can attain success.

In regard to student life, UM is a canvas of many colors. Its football team is ranked number 16 in the nation, according to CBS sports, and draws thousands of fans during games, making tailgates go-to events for students and families.

Miami’s plethora dining options offers students delicious cuisine within walking distance from campus. Popular restaurants include Threefold Café on 57th Ave. and Eating House on Ponce de Leon Blvd.

Whether studying in the Richter Library or participating in one of UM’s intramural or club sports, students know what it is all about: the U.
