After two days filled with dashes, relays and broken records, the Patriots’ Track & Field team finished as runner-ups in the FHSAA Class 2A State Championship. Although the team failed to bring home the gold, it was still an impressive showing, with many Patriots bringing back individual medals.
While most superstitious people were looking out for black cats and broken mirrors Friday, April 13th, competitors at the FHSAA Class 2A-15 Track and Field Meet were looking out for Patriot runners. The Patriots dominated the district meet, qualifying to the regional meet in over 20 events.
With every new NFL season comes a talented draft class of rookies preparing to challenge the veterans. Among the upcoming 2018 NFL draft are two Heritage alumni, Sony Michel and Tarvarus McFadden, who are ranked near the top of their running back and cornerback positions respectively. In this year’s NFL Scouting Combine, a week-long test in which projected draftees are challenged in front of staff from NFL teams, Michel and McFadden attempted to increase their draft stock in order to ensure a higher selection.
The girls varsity basketball team will post its first banner on the side of the athletics building after being crowned champions, defeating the Ponte Vedra Sharks 59-33 in the FHSAA Class 6A State Championship.
For the first time since 2012, players on boys varsity soccer team can wear medals around their necks after a 1-0 double overtime victory over the Seabreeze Sea Crabs in the FHSAA Class 3A State Championship.
