Great movie soundtracks

in Entertainment by

What’s a movie without music?

Picture your favorite movie without music. The lights dim as you noisily crunch on buttery popcorn and sip a refreshing soda. You settle into your seat and wait for the introductory music to begin playing. But it doesn’t…the movie is simply pictures aimlessly moving about the screen.

Music creates a captivating atmosphere and evokes emotion from viewers. Imagine The Breakfast Club without the iconic “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” by Simple Minds. What would the Harry Potter movies be without the eerie piano piece, “Hedwig’s Theme?” Try to visualize Jaws without the suspenseful music that plays just before an attack. Each of these movie soundtracks generates a certain tone and emotional appeal that keeps viewers engaged and wanting more.

2014 has seen many stupendous movie soundtracks. Science fiction movie Guardians of The Galaxy, a film about a hero who tries to withhold a powerful orb from evil powers, features a vintage soundtrack. Some of the songs include “I Want You Back” by Jackson 5, “Ooh Child” by The Five Stairsteps and “Cherry Bomb” by the Runaways.

Begin Again, a musical drama starring Keira Knightley and Adam Levine, has an original soundtrack featuring acoustic pieces and ballads. The hit songs from the film, “Lost Stars” and “Tell Me If You Wanna Go Home”, are sung and recorded by Knightley and Levine, giving the movie an indie musical appeal.

Walking through the halls, it is not uncommon to hear a student humming the tune of “Let It Go”, from Disney’s highest-grossing animated film ever made, Frozen. Hit songs “Do You Wanna Build a Snowman” and “Love is Open Door” are also catchy tunes that appeal to both young children, students and adults.

Music adds atmosphere, interest, and emotional appeal to films. The essence of a truly good movie contains not just an interesting story, but also an entertaining soundtrack that helps keep the viewer on the edge of his seat. Next time you sit down to watch a movie, pay attention to the musical score and notice how it can bring the movie to life.
