In competition with 103 boys and 83 girls from seventeen schools, the varsity Cross Country team participated in the class 3A district race. Traveling all the way up to Stuart, Fla., the team started the race early in the morning Saturday, Oct. 26.

The team competed in one 5k race, running about 3.2 miles. In order to move on to regionals, the team as a whole needed to place in the top ten Heritage squeezed in a seventh place finish in the 5k and will continue to race for a state championship at regionals this upcoming week.

Out of the runners on the team, sophomore Jayden Geathers earned the best time and placed in the top 30. Jayden is excited to compete at regionals and hopes to move on to states, as he knows the team has more left in the tank. “We did okay [at districts] but not our best performance,” Jayden said. “It’s alright because I know we’ll do better at regionals.”

At regionals, the team will run another 5k among the top ten teams in the region, and will need to place in the top six to move on to the state competition in November.
