Heritage plays first ever bowling match

A historic moment occurred yesterday for American Heritage. The varsity bowling team participated in its first game since its creation this year.

Wanting to prove themselves as part of yet another athletic force on campus, student bowlers began training for the season in August. The team’s head coach, Patrick Quinn, has high hopes for the season.

“I’m honored to coach these kids. I am excited to see these kids grow over the course of the season,” Quinn said.

Talented players are already emerging such as sophomore Sam Marx who knocked down 139 pins, the most after the first match. However, Marx remains humble despite his victory.

“Individual stats don’t matter. It’s about how the team plays as a whole,” Marx said. On the girls team, senior Raini Cypress kept her teammates energized and positive with her high scores and supportive energy.

The boys and girls team faced Coral Glades High School in its first game September 13.The game consisted of two regular matches with each player bowling 10 rounds, and a third “Baker style” match with five players bowling twice in one round. The girls’ team defeated Coral Glades by a wide margin while the boys suffered a loss in the first game. However, all players had smiles on their faces.

This day will go down in Heritage history as the athletic department’s first sports program expansion in a long time. The bowling team aims to qualify for playoffs by the end of this season.
