Leadership, character building, caring and inclusiveness all have something in common: they make up the core values of Key Club. Key Club held their annual Key Club Week, an internationally sponsored event that serves as a large-scale fundraiser Nov. 6 – 10.

Key Club kicked off the week with a tribute to their advisers, themed “Kudos to the Key Players.” On Monday, they decorated Mrs. Krisynda Cicos’ and Mrs. Natalie Cashman’s doors with a big “thank you” poster with streamers and balloons. The club followed up on Tuesday by delivering apple-shaped thank-you notes to contributing teachers and giving their advisers (Mrs. Cicos, Mrs. Cashman, and Mrs. Grady) gift baskets. On Wednesday, Key Club and One Planet United (OPU) members made out Thanksgiving cards to residents of local elderly homes. Thursday was a widespread attempt to involve not just Key Club members, but the whole school, as the club held Random Act of Kindness Day. Members challenged the entire school to try and perform one act of kindness, no matter how small. On Friday, the week concluded with “Show Your K in Every Way” Day. Members showed their spirit by wearing their Key Club T-shirts.

Throughout the week, Key Club members took part in themed days with one goal in mind: raising money. For that purpose, they provided incentives to the students to donate.

If they school raised:

$50- Ariann Barker will read fanfiction to public

$100- Key Club will give out free cookies after school

$150- Nick DiStefano will shave his legs

$200- Pie Key Club Executive Board

$250- Pie varsity baseball and soccer teams

$300- Mrs. Blum will wear a uniform for a day

$350- Kenzo Kimura will dye his hair blonde

$450- Faith Ward will serenade the school on the morning announcements

$400- Pie the sophomore, junior, and senior class presidents

$500- Mr. Carfagno will do the ice bucket challenge

Key Club continues to spread the word and recruit students to join in on the fun as they hold all-inclusive meetings to take part in mini service projects. Along the way, members will have the opportunity to focus on other community service and leadership, one project at a time. This year, they plan to donate to UNICEF, March of Dimes, the American Cancer Society and Project Alive.

Meetings are held every other Friday in room 4101.

“Key Club is a great way to get hours and leadership experience, and we are always looking for new members. It’s never too late to join.” Key Club president, junior Dalya Ackerman, said.

At the end of the week, Key Club successfully raised around $150 and plans on carrying out the first three incentives on a date to be announced.
