Boys and girls cross country finished as the district runner-ups this past Saturday, Oct. 31, with freshman Ashley Fitzgerald claiming the title of District Girls Individual Champion, freshman Sienna Alvarez-Coia placed in third.

“I am extremely happy with their performance,” head coach Damian Sutton said. “It has been tough with Covid this year. We didn’t have summer conditioning and the kids mostly conditioned on their own until school started. At district we were fighting the elements, including lightning delay, rain and muddy field but everyone had the same conditions so they just went out and competed.”

Both teams will move on to compete in the regional tournament this Saturday, Nov. 7, where they will look to advance once again.

“We have overcome a lot with our short season due to Covid,” Coach Sutton said. “Our mindset will be to just go out there and perform to the best of our abilities. The team knows what we are up against and they will go out and fight until the race is over.”
