Two days after taking care of Boyd Anderson 62-38, the varsity girls basketball team clashed with Northeast (8-7) with the District 14 Class 5A Championship on the line.

The Patriots dominated from the opening tip-off, securing the commanding win 73-28 behind junior Sydney Shaw’s 21 points, senior Taliyah Wyche’s 18 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks and senior Daniella Aronsky’s 11 points.

“We played good defense,” head coach Greg Farias said on the keys to the win. “We played like a team, and we had the inside/outside game. The guards were hitting 3 pointers and the [Wyche] twins dominated inside.”

With the win, the Patriots move to 20-2 on the season as they prepare to chase a fourth consecutive state banner.

“It meant a lot,” Coach Farias said of the District Championship, “because it’s the sixth consecutive district championship and [we are] ready for another run in the playoffs.”
