Each year, the spring football showcase kicks off the start of football season. Students, parents and faculty gathered in the stands May 24 to see what to expect for the upcoming year. Following a performance by the Patriot band, varsity football players showed off their talents from 7-8 p.m. On the sidelines, cheerleaders recited chants and practiced their routines.

The football game was not played against another school. Instead, the team split in two, half of the players wore white jerseys while the other half wore black jerseys. The game was not formal and no score was kept. College recruiters from the University of Central Florida and Auburn University stood on the sidelines to check up on athletes they contacted previously to sign onto their team.

The game ended as the band played Heritage’s fight song.

“I think overall that if we stick together and work hard, we’ll have a solid team next year,” said sophomore and center position varsity football player Zackary Zambrano. “If we focus on getting the little things right, I have no doubt that we will win the state championship.”
