On Dasher, on Dancer, on Prancer, on Vixen. On Comet, on Cupid, on Donner and…Pre-Med? This holiday season, the members of the Pre-Medical Society helped Santa spread the holiday cheer by throwing its annual Holiday Party at the Salah Foundation Children’s Hospital Oncology Unit Dec. 8.

Members decorated the room the day before until 1 a.m. the day of the event, making sure everything was perfect for the approximately 30 children receiving gifts. When the children entered the room, their eyes glistened at the shine of the Christmas lights adorning the walls of the conference room and the fake snow spread throughout the room.

“We benefit every child in the unit and try and buy them every single gift they want for the holiday season,” Pre-Med Society co-president senior Jasson Makkar said. “The best part is seeing their faces upon receiving the presents.”

The funds to host the party were collected through donations, sponsorships and fundraising throughout the first semester. Members stood outside stores such as Winn-Dixie to raise the necessary funds to help these children.

“My favorite part of the event is when you are talking to children; it is truly amazing how resilient they are despite all that they go through,” Makkar said. “They have the brightest and most beautiful smiles.”
