The best Brit bands

in Entertainment by

From The Beatles to Coldplay, Great Britain is home to some of the best musical groups in history. Here are a few bands from across the pond that are worth a listen.

Arctic Monkeys – Hailing from High Green, Sheffield, the indie rock quartet rose to prominence in 2006, following the release of its debut album “Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not.” Since then, the group has sold out shows and headlined various festivals across the globe. However, despite the group’s commercial success, their music is not often played on mainstream radio. The Monkeys’ sound is very diverse, and their genre varies by album. The bank’s third studio album “Humbug” has heavy rock influences, while its most recent release, “AM,” is steered toward a more pop sound.

Two Door Cinema Club – Two Door Cinema Club is indie pop at its finest. The trio originated in County Down, Northern Ireland  and started making music together in 2007 and have since released two chart-topping albums. Fronted by Alex Trimble, the group is famous for its upbeat, synth-powered anthems. In summer 2013, the band released “Changing of the Seasons,” a four-song EP featuring a more electronic-based sound.

Temples – Psychedelic rock band Temples started out as a project by two friends from Kettering, Northamptonshire. After uploading four songs to Youtube, the duo caught the eye of an indie record label, and in Nov. 2012, released their first single “Shelter Song.” Shortly thereafter, they added a drummer and a keyboardist to the band’s official line-up. Temples’ debut album “Sun Structures” was released in February 2014 to widespread acclaim. The group boasts a very retro sound, reminiscent of the 1960s British invasion.
