Torrance Gibson commits to Ohio State

in Football/Sports by

Family, friends, reporters and cameras were all present Nov. 3 in the main theater as senior quarterback Torrance Gibson announced his commitment to Ohio State University live on foxsportsflorida.com.

Gibson said he made the decision more than a week ago, but he was just waiting for the right time to make his decision public. One of the leading factors that caused Gibson to wait for over a week was that he didn’t have hats from all his top choices.

Gibson was left with the difficult decision of choosing between attending Ohio State University, University of Miami or Louisiana State University. After talking to coaches and consulting family and friends, Gibson chose to become a Buckeye.

Focusing on the football aspect of his decision, Gibson emphasized Ohio State’s offense fits his style of play much better than his other choices.

Gibson’s is a mobile quarterback known for his elusiveness and ability to scramble when under pressure. The systems at the University of Miami and Louisiana State emphasize the importance of a pocket passer who can stand and deliver a good throw rather than run and avoid the pressure. The style of play, as well as Urban Meyer, the highly distinguished coach at Ohio State, were the biggest factors influencing him to choose OSU in the end.

Although he committed to OSU to play football, athletics wasn’t the only thing that convinced him that OSU was the right choice. Gibson was also enticed by the school’s academics, specifically its business program, as well as the campus and surrounding environment.

“The great academics and coaching staff, as well as an awesome campus, pushed Ohio State over the edge,” Gibson said.

While many schools were vying for Gibson’s commitment, in the end, Coach Meyer added another top quarterback, who he hopes can develop into an elite college quarterback like Tim Tebow and Braxton Miller. “The coaching staff [at Ohio State] is giving me a real shot to play quarterback,” Gibson said.

After much deliberation, Gibson’s mind is set. “I’m a Buckeye,” he said.
