Varsity boys and girls golf teams move on to regionals

The varsity boys and girls golf teams won the district championship this past Monday, Oct. 14 in the Class 2A, District 15 Tournament at Parkland Golf and Country Club.

The girls golf team registered a team score of 311 to win by 4 strokes over second-place Archbishop McCarthy. Individual district champion and runner-up eighth grader Katherine Schaefer and eighth grader Alessandra Tabora, both of whom shot under par rounds of 70 and 71, led the girls team. Sophomore Kelly Shanahan also secured a fourth place finish after finishing with 77.

The boys team registered a 7 under par team score of 281, besting second-place finisher Archbishop McCarthy by 14 strokes. They all finished in the top six, as senior Leo Herrera won the individual medalist honors after posting a 5 under par 67. Senior Jude Kim and sophomore Gabe Hegerstrom tied for second place with 71 a piece while junior Jonathan Mourin finished in fifth place, carding 72. Sophomore Luke Clanton also ended the day at 74 to tie for sixth place. 

“[The] team feels really good right now as we are on a winning streak,” Kim said of the varsity boys team. “I feel very confident in our individual abilities, and that we can go into regionals and take another win.”

Both the varsity boys and girls teams will move on to the regional tournaments next monday and tuesday, respectively.
