Chappell Roan’s “The Subway”; a review

in Entertainment by

Chappell Roan, one of the biggest popstars of 2024, released her newest single “The Subway”. Dealing with themes of heartbreak and inability to move on after the end of a relationship, Roan’s new song received widespread praise after being released on July 31.

“Roan’s real magic trick is in her ability to weaponize familiarity and novelty in such a way that a song like ‘The Subway’ sounds totally fresh,” music review site Pitchfork said. The song has emotional peaks and valleys; someone can feel Roan’s heartbreak over her ex in the waves she surely felt herself. As of Aug. 31, “The Subway” has surpassed over 100 million streams, proving its popularity among listeners.

Roan, a Grammy-winning artist, released her debut album “ The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess” two years prior, which earned her six nominations and won her “Best New Artist” at the Grammy Awards. Roan’s success has continued with singles such as “Good Luck, Babe!” and “The Giver” reaching over one million and 100,000 streams each, respectively. With its ‘80s sound, references to modern times and catchy beat, “The Subway” and Chappell herself certainly have not gotten away from our hearts just yet.
