Patriots will get them next time: Homecoming game recap

Heritage football surrendered a second-half lead for the third straight game, falling 31-21 on Friday to Miami Central before a disappointed Homecoming Night crowd.

Heritage (1-3) jumped to a 21-9 lead in the third quarter behind strong play by new quarterback Leon Strawder, a transfer from Miami Northwestern, who completed 15 of 22 passes with two touchdowns, including a 60-yarder to Coi Jean-Noel. Strawder also ran for a touchdown. He is replacing Dia Bell, who has announced he will not return to the team after suffering a minor injury.

But just as the Patriots did against Chaminade-Madonna and Edna Karr, they couldn’t hold the lead, with Central (3-0) scoring the game’s last 22 points.

Rockets quarterback Anthony McQueen hit receiver Joshua Joseph for a 76-yard touchdown on third down and 12 midway through the third quarter to cut the lead to 21-16.

McQueen scored on a one-yard run in the fourth to give Central the lead and then hit Joseph for a 28-yard score to ice the game.
