Saving the world: the Superman movie

in Entertainment by

I never watched much of Marvel, DC or superhero movies and shows, but the new “Superman” changed that. Released July 11, “Superman” reached $122 million in the U.S. and $217 worldwide within its first weekend in theaters. I could barely find any available tickets, which only confirmed its popularity.

First off, the plot was entertaining. Every few minutes my hands were either covering my eyes or mouth. I was either shocked, disgusted or laughing. Even without prior knowledge of Superman besides him being a hero, I still left the theater satisfied.

I felt the main message of the movie was heartfelt and impactful. One of the most memorable scenes was Superman describing what it really means to be human. He said that experiencing emotions such as love, happiness and hatred was what made him human, not a villain.

The film featured a talented cast, including David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor (the antagonist), Nathan Fillon as Green Lantern and more.

In addition, the movie also highlighted the role of journalists. Besides the superheroes, nearly every character was a reporter. The news about Superman coming to Earth and Lex Luthor revealing his identity was all shown through live television. It reminded me of how important we journalists are.

I recommend it to all and rate it a 9/10.

During the first few scenes, Superman is taken care of by his robot assistants. I never knew, but he heals through sunlight, which I thought was cool, and he continues to be fixed this way several times throughout the movie. (Photo/Adiya Mukhitdinov)
