Seniors meet in Student Center to discuss second semester events

The Senior Prom is scheduled for April 25 and Senior Week will start two days later highlighted by senior event coordinators Mrs. Krisynda Cicos, Mrs. Marisa Behar and Mr. Juan Laureano at the Student Center.

Senior Prom takes place at the Harbour Beach Marriott from 7 to 11 p.m. Tickets go on sale March 13, and students are allowed to bring a guest as long as they are below 21 years of age.

Following this, Senior Week kicks off April 27 with Senior Citizen Day, followed by Senior Breakfast where students will wear merch from the college they intend to attend. During the breakfast, students will be receiving their cap and gown and are dismissed from the gym at 11 a.m.

Senior Carnival is April 29. On this day, students will only go to their first period classes to receive tickets. The following day, students will be taken to Grad Bash on early admission to have lunch at Disney Springs and have fun at the two connected theme parks: Islands of Adventure and Universal.

Grad Bash tickets have already been sent through email. Students must coordinate with friends to get on the same buses—the forms to this seating will be sent out a couple weeks prior to the trip. Mrs. Cicos specifically mentioned to not bring consumables because belongings will be inspected and every student will get a snack pack. Additionally, seniors may bring blankets as bags will be left on the buses. This is the first year when students arrive at 7:30 a.m. on a Thursday and return early in the morning on Friday, a free skip day approved by administration this year.

However, there remains a downside to this scheduling. Final exams for seniors fall on the Saturday following Grad Bash and AP exams, and students may not have more than 10 tardies and absences. Students must attend all activities and days during AP Exam week to be counted as present.

Graduation rehearsal takes place at 4 p.m. May 11, at the Rick Case Arena at Nova Southeastern University where students will be dressed in casual attire that may not associate themselves with the school. They will receive nine guest tickets for the ceremony.

Senior Awards, which fall on May 14th at the Main Theater at 6 p.m., directly conflicts with Silver Knights. Nonetheless, it’ll be a night for families to celebrate accomplished students across educational departments. Adding to this celebration, the Senior Video will debut at Senior Dinner, which happens May 15 at the Diplomat Hotel from 6 to 9 p.m.

Finally, the long-awaited graduation ceremony happens on May 17. Doors open at 10 a.m., and parking is free in the university-assigned parking lot. The ceremony starts and doors close at 11 a.m. during a segment where student and administrative leadership will give speeches and sing the National Anthem.

College advising reminds seniors to fill out the college acceptance form and parents to clear accounts with the business office as it may delay diploma distribution. All in all, seniors have many celebratory events to look forward to this semester.
