The Student Government Association’s annual talent show took place Feb. 17, in the theater. The 10 gifted performers made it a night to remember, and it was certainly a tough choice for the judges to determine the winners.

The judges, Ms. Rosa Blake, Dr. Ashley Torres and Ms. Jessica Miliffe, scored acts based on five categories with a maximum of 60 points. Personality, stage appearance, originality and audience response were judged out of 10 points, while overall performance was judged out of 20 points.

Senior Hannah Myers sings and plays her original song, “Recover,” which she wrote during the summer of 2020. “The song was written in 2020 when the world shut down due to covid, and as I struggled with my own mental health issues. I finished it about a year later, after I went through recovery, and felt a full 360 moment while performing on stage,” Myers said. “I am extremely proud of the progress I’ve made and so glad I got to share it with everyone in the audience as well.” (Photo/Nithisha Makesh)

Seventh-grader Austin Stein combines “Into the Unknown” from Frozen 2 and “Never Gonna Give You Up” by Rick Astley with the Japanese instrument the Otamatone. This performance was particularly fascinating to the audience, resulting in loud cheers and clapping along. (Photo/Nithisha Makesh)

Member of Florida’s Seminole tribe, junior Nikki Osceola-Doctor sings “Sawgrass Flower” by James Billie, half in English and half in Osceola-Doctor’s native tongue Miccosukee. The song tells the story of when and how he fell in love. (Photo/Nithisha Makesh)
