The Patriot’s boys golf team kicked off the season with a victory and a fifth place finish following their win in the 20th annual American Heritage Boys Golf Invitational held at Lago Mar Country Club this past Monday. Heritage’s first team finished in first place and shot a team total of 290, while the second team clinched top five at the conclusion of the tournament. Sophomores Luke Clanton, Gabriel Hegerstrom and Sebastian Sacristan, along with seniors Jude Kim and Leo Herrera all placed in the top 10 for the Patriots.

“I think we absolutely set the tone for the season,” Kim said. “We by far did not play our best golf, but in winning we were able to show that we are here to win every match.”

Kim, who feels he is coming off of his best golf in the off-season both mentally and physically, has high hopes for his team this upcoming year.

“The team as a whole looks great,” he said. “I feel we have the best depth in the entire state — maybe country — with almost every one of our players between Varsity and JV shooting below 75. Even at the top I feel like our big guys can compete with anyone, anywhere.”

Kim will look to help lead the Patriots to a successful season after the team’s strong run at the Boys Invitational tournament.
