The Nintendo Switch 2 is posting record sales since its release earlier this month, outpacing the previous fastest-selling consoles, the Playstation 4 and Playstation 5. The Nintendo Switch 2 has sold 3.5 million units in just the first four days since its release. In comparison, it took the Playstation 4 16 days to sell 2.1 million units and the Playstation 5 four weeks to sell 3.4 million units. In addition, the original Nintendo Switch sold only 2.74 million units in the same amount of time. Evidently, the Switch 2 has smashed the record for the fastest-selling console of all time. It seems the majority of players are willing to put up with Nintendo’s regulation of the console and the steep prices of its games.
Nintendo announced their prediction that the Switch 2 would sell 15 million units by the end of March 2026 May 8, 2025. If the Switch 2 keeps up its pace, it could meet this goal in less than 18 days since its launch.
The Switch 2 compares its sales per day to those of the PS4, PS5 and original Switch. The Nintendo Switch 2 sold units more than 6 times faster than the previous record holder, the Playstation 4. While the Playstation 4 sold an average of about 131,250 units per day in its first 16 days, the Switch 2 sold an average of around 875,000 units per day in its first four days. (Graphic/Alex Ngo)
