Transformer troubles

After a transformer blew on Broward Boulevard, triggering the fire alarm, students and teachers missed the end of 2nd period and the beginning of 3rd period as our school held students outside until receiving an all-clear from the fire department.

The 6000 was evacuated for the rest of the day and other areas of campus are experiencing outages in the phone lines, lighting and air conditioning. Though there was no risk of fire, teachers and faculty were advised to be on the lookout for any signs of smoke or fire as a precaution since the fire alarms were not working for a short while. FPL is currently working to repair the power and the broken transformer.

“The students and faculty did a great job with the evacuation. It is actually great to get to test our evacuation plan. We are sorry classes were disrupted, but the safety of our students is always our priority,” said Upper School Principal Elise Blum.
