Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights is Hair-Raising

There are many things that fall under the “horrifying” category. Failing a test you studied excruciatingly hard for, living through any Friday that happens to fall on the 13th, getting flashed by blue and red lights while a policeman writes up a ticket and hearing a creak in the house at night when you are home alone. These are all horror stories almost everyone has lived through, but the most horrifying event I have ever experienced is Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights (HHN) 26, and I am extremely surprised I lived through such an occurrence to recount the night.

Speaking of horror stories, the most impressive haunted house at HHN was the “American Horror Story” house. The house encompasses three seasons of the hit TV show – Murder House, Freak Show and Hotel – and each “scene” within the house is incredibly realistic and reenacts the scene from the show almost perfectly.

HHN turned three classic horror films (“Halloween,” “The Exorcist” and “Texas Chainsaw Massacre”) into three terrifying houses. In “Halloween,” visitors are stalked by serial killer Michael Myers with his legendary white face mask.

In “The Exorcist,” visitors enter young Regan’s (the girl who is possessed by the devil) quaint house and venture into different rooms to watch the progression of the devil growing within her. The scariest aspect of the Exorcist house is when Regan levitates five feet above her bed and convulses as the evil spirit fights inside of her while the priest stands directly underneath her and screams prayers, commencing the exorcism.

In “Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” visitors are chased by Leatherface, equipped with his grinding chainsaw and face mask made of pieces of skin from each one of his victims. Each of these houses brings to life vintage murderers for the entertainment of those who enjoy being scared.

The most memorable part of the night was being able to ride Universal’s “Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit” at two in the morning. Drowsy people waiting in line were shocked with a jolt of energy and adrenaline when the ride was over. Sitting 167 feet above the world and seeing flashing red lights, an immensity of dark smoke and people being chased by monsters in the streets was worth the hour wait.

Getting scared with a group of your best friends or simply watching other people scream and run away from monsters is an event you will cherish for a lifetime. The thrill ends Oct. 31. Visit http://www.halloweenhorrornights.com/orlando/ to purchase tickets.
