As winter sports have recently drawn to a close, the Sun Sentinel, which awards a select number of students a spot on All-County teams across various sports from class 5A-1A and 7A-6A, awarded a total of 23 Patriots a variety of end-of-season titles. The winners are as follows:

Broward 5A-1A Girls Basketball Co-Players of the Year: Juniors Tatyana and Taliyah Wyche

“Being named Co-Player of the Year means a lot to me personally,” junior Tatyana Wyche said. “It is great to be recognized for all of our hard work.”

“It means so much to me that we were both named Player of the Year,” Taliyah Wyche said regarding winning the award alongside her sister. “I love winning with my sister, no matter what it is.”

Broward 5A-1A Girls Basketball First Team All-County: Junior Daniella Aronsky

“I am fortunate to be on a team that I could help win three consecutive state championships,” Aronsky said. “It is nice to be recognized on an individual level for all the hard work I put into it.”

Broward 5A-2A Boys/Girls Basketball Honorable Mentions: Seniors Maurissa Edwards, December Stubbs, Jackson Arnberg and Junior Renato Ruiz

Broward County Coaches of the Year: Varsity Girls Basketball Head Coach Greg Farias

“I appreciate the award because it validates that hard work pays off,” Coach Farias said. “We put in so many hours and hard work during the summer. When school starts, we start conditioning and lifting weights the first week of school. It validates that putting in the hours and helping the girls get better is always worth it. It’s the third time we won with different girls, and the girls that carried us this year have been working hard for the past three years to help the program and themselves grow. To win it once is an accomplishment but three times is an honor. I have to thank the girls on the team, my coaches, Karen Stearns and her team, administration.  It takes everyone to help build a winner.”

Broward County Wrestling Second Team All-County: Sophomore Jaeden Kinlock

“It is a big accomplishment to be named [to the] Broward County Wrestling Second Team, and it means a lot that all my hard work is paying off,” Kinlock said. “This is just the beginning of my wrestling career and I’m excited to compete next year.”

Broward 5A-2A Boys Soccer First Team All-County: SeniorsChristian Maldonado and Miles Walters

“Being named first team all county is a huge accomplishment for me because it means all my hard work this past season paid off,” Maldonado said. “All those late practices with my coach weren’t for nothing and it showed how I was able to be recognized through a tough season.”

“First off, I just have to thank God for being in the position I’m in, and personally, this is much more than just ball,” Walters said. “I want to be an inspiration to all the younger ballers and even the older ones who inspired me. From a soccer standpoint, this just means that I need to continue to work harder and keep on grinding because I can promise there are bigger and better things coming.”

Broward 5A-2A Girls Soccer First Team All-County: Seniors Maya Cabrera and Lilliana Graves

“Receiving that title for my 3rd year in a row is very special,” Cabrera said. “Making the first team this year is extra special because the season didn’t go as planned, and we lost early, so still being able to have been recognized did a lot for my confidence as well as my mental.”

“I am proud that I was named a member of the All-county 1st team and honored that I could represent myself and my school alongside my teammate, Maya,” Graves said. “It felt extremely rewarding to end my last season of high school soccer with that recognition.”

Broward 5A-2A Boys Soccer Second Team All-County: Senior Reed Tillinghast and Junior Nigel Muirhead

“Being on an all county team for me is a blessing,” Tillinghast said. “As I tore a ligament in my ankle midway through the season, I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to come back and play the rest of my senior year. To not only come back but to also make an all county team is more than I could’ve imagined this year. Being a part of this team has been probably the best experience of my high school career and to get a spot to play and make an all county team is incredible.”

“I am very grateful to be part of the All-County team and I hope to represent my school and programs well, but in the end, I want to strive to make the First Team because this isn’t the end,” Muirhead said. “There is still a lot more I would want to achieve.”

Broward 5A-2A Boys/Girls Soccer Honorable Mentions: Juniors John Jago, Carlos Palacio, Sophomores Alexa Garcia, Sophia Garcia, Diana Pon, and Seniors Olivia Roth, Camillo Espinoza and Gabrielle Scarlett
