Since the first Captain America comic release in 1940, Captain America has become an iconic Marvel Studios superhero. Seen across over 20 movies, Captain America was featured in Marvel’s newest movie, “Captain America: Brave New World,” released Feb 14.
In its opening weekend, “Captain America: Brave New World” grossed $88.5 million, but was the movie good?
The Pros
The movie consisted of good acting and plenty of well-integrated action scenes. Moreover, it was well-shot and decently entertaining. Anthony Mackie played the role of Captain America well and was eye-catching in the smoothness of his character.
The Cons
One con was the overuse of CGI throughout the movie. Although it is an action movie with fictional super-characters in a fictional universe, the movie was overly reliant on editing and CGI, making the movie unenjoyable from a viewing perspective. Like most superhero action movies, the superhero action is almost entirely CGI, but I found the CGI of the Red Hulk to be particularly hard to watch and unrealistic.
Moreover, the movie did not have a solid, followable plot. From the outside, the movie was very random and lacked a clear narrative. There was so much going on during the movie that it became hard to observe everything that was taking place. Some of the scenes would have been portrayed better and would have come across as more heartfelt if the action slowed down. It felt as if characters were being thrown around left-and-right with the introduction of villain after villain like Voelker, Sterns and Red Hulk to cameos and references of random characters from various Marvel movies like the Falcon, Thaddeus Ross and Buckley Barnes. Unfortunately, the movie’s plot is its biggest downfall. Due to the messy plot, “Captain America: Brave New World” gets a 6/10.

With a reported production cost of $180 million, Marvel has a long way to go before they break even on their newest Captain America movie. The movie has received uncharacteristically low —for Marvel Studios— ratings online and has brought in just over $90 million in four days. (Photo/Marvel Studios)
