The haunted halls of the 9100 building and student’s cars parked in Lot 3 were decked out in this year’s spookiest decorations as students and teachers welcomed young children to the National Honor Society’s (NHS) annual Trunk-or-Treat fundraiser from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Lower School and Upper School both participated in the event to support this year’s causes: Angel Tree and Project Alive. Today’s homecoming movie night in the gym attracted large numbers of students, ranging from seventh graders to upper school seniors. Students sprawled out on blankets with their friends, some using their backpacks as pillows. Since it was a movie event, the concession stand remained packed before the movie began, serving pizza, ice cream, sodas and other snacks. While the event itself was free, all proceeds from the concessions went to Project Alive. Keep Reading
It’s not always a thrilling experience to attend a new school. To ease the atmosphere between new students and families, freshman class advisor Mrs. Jessica Burns, Student Government Association (SGA) and the Parent-Teacher Association (PTO) hosted a freshman tailgate to welcome new students and a welcome tailgate for their families before last Friday’s football game as it was moved from September 15 because of Hurricane Irma. A different type of fundraiser finally returned to Heritage last week at the Spanish Honor Society’s (SHS) annual Zumbathon. From 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 19, students in the society and guests danced their hearts out to music both old and new, raising money to send Dora, a young Guatemalan girl, to school through Children’s International Fundraising.
