Looking for a new and interesting place to visit? The megacity of Chongqing is one of largest municipalities by population, with 31 million residents. The majority of the population lives in apartments.
Already existing as a civilization since the Stone Age, Chongqing has been declared as a self-governing area within Sichuan since April 1997. The name of the city dates back to the end of the 11th century BC, where Emperor Guangzong named the city “major(重)celebration (庆).”
Chongqing is also a famous tourist area, with its top attractions such as Hongya cave. It consists of preserved ancient Chinese structures built into the hillside of Chongqing’s Jialing River.
Another attraction is Jiefangbei Business Waking Street. It is a dense urbanized downtown core with numerous mega shopping malls and some of the city’s tallest skyscrapers. It also consists of a large pedestrian square surrounding the People’s Liberation Monument that celebrates China’s victory in World War II.
“The people in Chongqing lead a chill and relaxing lifestyle. Whenever I come back to Chongqing city, it is like coming back home. Chongqing is known for its complicated landscape of being surrounded by mountains,” said sophomore Terry Liang, whose hometown is Chongqing city.
Whether you are looking for an urban city tour, or a relaxing trip of the bustle city life, Chongqing is a recommended city to visit in China.
