Don’t go Solo on Halloween: the best group costume ideas of the year

Everything’s better with friends and Halloween is no different.  Instead of the traditional solo costumes, consider planning outfits with friends or partners that are sure to grab everyone’s attention.  It’s more than just looking good; it’s about creating a themed look that stands out and creates a lasting memory.  Group costumes allow for imagination and fun on a larger scale.  Whether your group costume concepts are inspired by a movie, iconic TV show, or nostalgic toy, the options are endless this year.

Superheros: 

Whether you choose to dress up as characters from DC or Marvel, this costume set is perfect for large friend groups and offers tons of variety. Fans of DC comics can pick between members of the Justice league like Batman, Superman or Wonder Woman. Those who lean more towards Marvel can dress up as Avengers like Spiderman, Black Widow or Captain America. Notably, two superheros are sure to be especially popular: Deadpool and Wolverine. With their recent movie in theaters, these colorful red and yellow suits are likely to be one of the coolest costumes this year. The Wizard of Oz:

Although not out yet, the new Wicked movie is set to release shortly after Halloween, in early November. That means this is the perfect time for this group costume. Of course, options are not just limited to good witches and bad witches. Dorothy, the scarecrow, the lion and the tin man are obvious main characters with fun, iconic outfits. For even more costumes, some members of the group could dress up as Toto or a flying monkey. 

Barbie and Ken (and friends):

Riding the craze of the popular Barbie movie, couples can dress up the classic and nostalgic couple of Barbie and Ken.  Give a different perspective of the Barbie and Ken universe by highlighting the individuality of the multitude of Barbies and Kens characters. No need to worry about appearing too basic if your Halloween costume creativity extends beyond the classic blonde Barbie and Ken.  Here the possibilities for a tailored look are endless: think of Cowboy Ken in a fringe suede jacket and boots, President Barbie in a pink power suit,  Lifeguard Ken in his favorite Baywatch suit,  Rollerblading Barbie and Ken in neon Jazzercise outfits and rollerblades.  Some groups are even including quirky versions like the beloved Weird Barbie with crazy hair and face paint, Mermaid Barbie or Astronaut Barbie.  This costume has endless variety. Whether it be a group of barbies, kens or a mix of both, these dolls have enough outfit choices to last for hundreds of Halloweens to come. 

Group Halloween costumes are taking over because they show just how connected friend groups have become.  With Instagram reels and tiktok challenges amplifying the fun of these costume groups, more high school students are inspired to step up their costume games.   Group and couple costumes allow for more interaction on Halloween, whether it be at a party, trick or treating or a school dress up day.  It allows you to be part of Halloween fun while being part of something bigger and bonding with your friends.
