The era of EDM is upon us.
Instead of hiding behind acoustic covers and clutching to “real vocals,” give this increasingly popular kind of music a shot. Here are some great remixes to help ease any reluctant listener onto the House bandwagon.
The Diplo and Grandtheft Remix of Calvin Harris’ “Summer” – If you liked the upbeat tempo of the original, then you’ll love this remix. This remix is basically the same song but on steroids, faster than the original. A little over one minute into the song, the background beat starts changing so that it is a completely new, edgier beat and then it effortlessly melts back into the crescendo to the chorus that made “Summer” famous in the first place. The remix switches between this new, techno backbeat and the original crescendo to create a seamless and refreshing take on the popular single.
The Robin Schulz Remix Radio Edit of “Waves” by Mr. Probz – This remix begins with a distinctly techno intro but then incorporates guitar as the song progresses. This song features a male singer with a slow, raspy voice that gives the song a super chill vibe. The lyrics even coincide with the tempo and beat of the song. As the singer says, “Slowly drifting. Drifting away,” the lyrics seem to fade in and out as though the listener is actually in the ocean, drifting with the music.
Kygo Remix of Ed Sheeran and Passenger’s song “No Diggity vs. Thrift Shop” – This is perfect for someone who is hesitant to join the EDM dark-side because it features two mainstream artists so it has a lot of facets of popular songs from the radio. Having lyrics drifting in and out and occasional strong vocal inserts from Ed Sheeran, this song contains a very laid-back vibe. The premise of this song is also pretty funny because it’s sort of like “remix-ception.” It’s an EDM remix of Ed Sheeran’s remix of Macklemore’s “Thrift Shop.”
Whether you are ready to abandon the days of solo guitars and lone drums or not, these songs are sure to please EDM fanatics and mainstream listeners alike.
