For the first time, The Stanley Cup finds a home in the Florida Panther’s den

After a nail-biting series, the Florida Panthers clinched their first Stanley Cup victory, marking a historic milestone for the franchise and its devoted fan base. The Panthers secured the championship after a thrilling game seven showdown against the Edmonton Oilers, concluding the series with a 4-3 victory June 24 at the Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Fla.

When the iPatriotPost last left off regarding the Stanley Cup, the Panthers were 1-0 in the series after a 3-0 win over the Oilers June 8, and oh what a ride it’s been since then.

The Panthers came out hot and continued their win streak for three games, taking a 3-0 lead in the series. The Cats won game two at home (4-1) and game three away (4-3).

While it appeared that the Panthers had this series in the bag and the cup may as well already be shipped to Florida, the Oilers quickly proved this assumption wrong and pulled themselves from the trenches. One game at a time, the Oilers came back, winning game four by a landslide (8-1), game five (5-3) and game six (5-1) to tie the series at 3-3. It all came down to game seven.

In a first period full of action, each team had one goal on the board, scored by left wing Carter Verhaeghe for the Panthers and right wing Mattias Janmark for the Oilers. In period two, Panthers right wing Sam Reinhart scored what would come to be the last goal of the series to bring the score to 2-1. After a third period full of strong defense and many saved goals by goalie Sergei Bobrovsky, the Panthers won the game and claimed the Stanley Cup for the first time in program history.

This Stanley Cup win is not just a triumph for the team but also a significant moment for the sport in Florida. It highlights the growth and popularity of hockey in non-traditional markets, showcasing the sport’s expanding reach and influence.

“It’s not a dream anymore. It’s reality. And I can’t believe it,” right wing Matthew Tkachuk, who earned 22 points in the playoffs, said in a post game interview.

As the Panthers revel in their victory, the future looks bright for the team. For now, though, the focus is on celebrating a well-deserved and hard-fought championship.

The Panthers defeated the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 in the 2024 Stanley Cup series. Last year (2023), the Panthers reached the Stanley Cup but fell 4-1 in their series versus the Las Vegas Golden Knights. Therefore, the Panthers were avoiding becoming the first back-to-back Stanley Cup runner up since the Boston Bruins lost in the championship twice in 1977 and 1978. The Panthers pulled through and took home the Stanley Cup: the most powerful trophy in hockey. (Photo/FlaPanthers on Instagram)
