To sophomore Aliyah Dania, Heritage has been the only school she’s known. Starting school here in kindergarten, she’s been attending for 12 years. Throughout those years, Dania has been able to connect with classmates, old and new, as well as try out many different opportunities and passions that crossed her path.
A member of many clubs such as HOSA, Arabic Club, Hope Club, Marine Biology Club, Blue Missions and Forensics club, Dania channels her passions for science and community service into these clubs. “Being a part of so many clubs allows me to help out my community and others by volunteering and staying up to date with my interests and current events,” Dania said. “I love to not only stay connected to my community but also my culture.”
Hoping to someday be a forensics scientist, Dania chooses to focus on participating in events that really emphasize her passion, such as science research. This year, choosing to research the effect of toxins on breast cancer and ways to minimize that, Dania uses her personal connection and interest in science to fuel her work.
Being at Heritage so long has taught Dania to adapt and overcome the challenges that she’s faced. She is incredibly thankful for the people who have been able to help her grow in this environment. “I’ve met so many different people, and the really close friends make it feel like home,” Dania said. “The family I’ve grown up with, past and current teachers, and friend groups will always be my favorite part of school.” Dania reflects on how the people who make Heritage “bearable and memorable” are the people she’s closest with, and she’s forever grateful for that.
So whether she’s in the Arabic club appreciating her heritage or in the lab working on possibly a cure for cancer, Dania makes sure to keep every moment at Heritage as lively and exciting as it was before.
