The tablecloths, dresses and napkins matched the pens, ties and balloons: blue and white, the colors of the United Nations. Distinguished members of the local community gathered at the Inverrary Country Club this afternoon for a luncheon held in recognition of the seventieth anniversary of the United Nations. The event was hosted by the Broward County Chapter of the United Nations Association of the United States of America & United Nations Foundation.
Teacher and Model UN advisor Mr. Mark Gruskin was one of seven community figures honored at the luncheon, receiving an award for his work in promoting the UN as an educator. After he received his award, Gruskin spoke briefly, thanking his family and school administration for their support. He also cited his students as his greatest inspiration in his work.
There to support Gruskin were his three sisters, brother-in-law and mother, as well as Ms. Blum and Ms. Shienvold.
“It was a great honor and an enjoyable event. I got to meet a lot of important people from around the county who contribute to social improvement, and it was also great to see my family and friends come out to support me,” said Gruskin.
