Headed by instructors Renée Monique Brown, Cecilia Case and Alisa Jacob, the Heritage Dance Company and Heritage Ensemble held their annual winter concert Thursday, Dec. 4 at 7:30 p.m. After months of rehearsal, over 50 of the school’s top dancers came together to put on an uplifting performance that recognized the many different holidays celebrated by students across campus.
“It’s so exciting to work with all of these talented and positive students during the holidays. I was so glad to have everyone come together and perform, and for us dancers to share our joy for the season with the audience members,” said senior and president of Dance Ensemble Audrey Lugo.
During the weeks leading up to the show, dancers had to work classes and other extracurricular activities around a rigorous training schedule. At the end of their performance, the entire production received a standing ovation.
“I always tell them that they have to leave blood on the Marley … that’s the floor they dance on,” said director Renée Brown. “And tonight they achieved that. Dance should inspire and uplift. It should not just be for pleasure alone. Tonight the dancers gave it that little extra. They worked for it.”
