To conclude the celebrations of Homecoming week, the Homecoming Dance was held at Gulfstream’s Ten Palms and Sports of King Theater Oct. 19. From 7 p.m.-11 p.m. Students enjoyed a catered dinner as well as plenty of time to dance and have fun. Over 800 students purchased tickets to the event, with the venue being able to hold nearly double the amount of students than before.
Students first were welcomed into the Ten Palms venue, where dinner was served with views of the racetrack. Dinner included beef and salmon sliders, as well as Mexican rice and vegetable and chicken quesadillas. Students were able to sit at one of the many tables lining the two levels of the dinner hall. Down at the racetrack, American Heritage signage could be viewed on the field.
At 8:30 p.m., students transitioned to the Sports of Kings Theater, where desserts were served and dancing commenced. Churros and cookies were offered, and the DJ remained on the stage as he played hit songs such as “Carnival” by Kanye West, “Shake it Off” by Taylor Swift, “Titi Me Pregunto” by Bad Bunny and, of course, “FE!N” by Travis Scott, twice.
Seating was provided for students who might have wanted to sit instead of stand at the end of the night.
At around 9:30 p.m., the Homecoming Court was crowned. Makayla and Kade Versteeg represented the freshmen, Marina Cavalieri and Alejandro Hurtado represented the sophomores and Alana Felix and Francesco Buttani represented the juniors. The Senior court was composed of Addison Buckley and Aaron Spiller, Jeeya Patel and Shreyan Signha and Homecoming Queen and King Isabella Machado and Fischer Lavoie. Macahdo and Lavoie conducted the first dance to the song “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran, before the other couples and students joined in.
The night ended at 11 p.m., and students were released from the venue to go home, or even go shopping throughout the Gulfstream mall.
The Homecoming Dance featured a spinning Photo Booth. Homecoming Queen and King Isabella Machado and Fisher Lavoie opened up the dance floor to the song “Perfect.” Students were able to dance, and even chaperones like Coach Garcia let loose and had fun. At the dance, students participated in crowdsurfing, moshing and dancing with friends. (Photos/Adam Ginsburg)
