With 2024 right around the corner, celebrations to welcome the new year and the end of 2023 are in full swing. Here are some more modern songs to add to your playlist to bring some extra flare to your New Year’s Eve party:

is it new year’s yet?

“is it new year’s yet?” off of Sabrina Carpenter’s newest EP “fruitcake” embodies the want for a do-over in the new year. “is it new year’s yet?” mentions staple New Year’s traditions such as drinking champagne and having a New Year’s kiss. The lyrics also describe the narrator missing out on family during the holiday. Despite the dismal lyrics, the song is upbeat and sure to lift spirits. It’s perfect to sing along to during a New Year’s party with friends and family.

New Year’s Day (Taylor Swift)

Taylor Swift’s classic holiday song “New Year’s Day,” the closing track of her sixth album “Reputation,” is a pensive song that reflects on the joy of doing the little things with your lover following a New Year’s party. In true Taylor Swift fashion, polaroids, bottles and confetti are mentioned in pensive lyrics that create a feeling of longing  for loved ones. A slow-paced song, this song is perfect to wind down to following a hectic night.

New Year’s Day (U2)

U2’s “New Year’s Day” has been a classic for years already, and is a rock staple even in times outside the holiday season. The song discussed lovers being able to start anew on New Year’s day. The song crescendos to the final chorus, even including a guitar and keyboard solo. With a notable pop-rock production, the song is impossible to not dance to, and is a must for a New Year’s playlist.

Can’t Catch Me Now

“Can’t Catch Me Now,” by Olivia Rodrgio, is her most recently released song, and while it doesn’t have a holiday connotation, it encapsulates the feeling of wistfulness that a new year can bring. This slow-beat song is another perfect song to relax and reflect with your family.
