National Art Honor Society (NAHS) celebrated this school year’s successes with creative cookie decorations, music and introductions to new officers in Ms. Preston’s art classroom May 20.
“I found that the party was fun mostly because of the activity we planned out for today and everyone’s participation in it. I drew a little dog with a T-shirt, and I’m excited to plan new events and to support my club and my classmates,” freshman Camila Galindo, the new Events Co-Chair, said.
NAHS has experienced major changes this year. The Young Masters program, introduced by previous education chairs, proved to be a success in its first year. Members of NAHS volunteered as teachers and assistants, building extracurricular activities for younger students in all areas of art. From watercolor to modeling clay, the skills developed during afternoon Wednesday sessions in the art room shaped future generations.
Another fun tradition established this year was flower grams for Valentine’s Day. Students made and sold origami flowers to fundraise new projects, creative meetings and the Young Masters program as part of Valentine’s Day celebrations.
Looking forward, officers intend to not only keep these traditions, but introduce new ones by highlighting student artists, inviting professionals to share their experience and expanding resources.
“I helped plan the party, so seeing the idea come to life was really fun. The drawings were so cute and interactive,” junior Anaiah Pena, the new Communications Chair, said. “Next year, I’m really looking forward to more art activities and being able to show creative abilities through these little projects.”

NAHS has its end of the year party with a cookie decorating contest. The tradition started last year when seniors Kayra Dayi and Cristina Escardo, the past President and Vice President of NAHS, wanted to set the tone for the new NAHS members with a warm welcome. (Photo Credit/Alina Sukhovskaya)
