The boys soccer team faced another setback to their season against the Reagan Bisons Thursday, Jan. 10, losing 1-0. While the Patriots are ranked 38 in the state and the Bison’s are sitting at 232, the Patriots failed to take advantage of their possession during the match and fell short.
Through the majority of the first half, both teams were fighting for possession. Leading up to halftime, Heritage started to take control but were unable to score.
In the beginning of the second half, the Bisons began to gain momentum and scored their first and only goal. With only four minutes and 33 seconds in the half, a defensive misstep allowed the Bisons to net the game’s only goal and cost the Patriots the game.
Despite this setback, the Patriots continued fighting, especially with the goalkeeper and co-captain Zachary Libson continuing to communicate and motivate the team.
Heritage continued to press and got very close to scoring various times; however, the final whistle blew and unfortunately their efforts weren’t enough to turn the game around.
“It was a tough loss tonight but we will keep fighting until the end of the season,” junior central midfielder Andrew Pavlov said.
