The Pre-Law Society hosted its third annual Party with a Purpose at Sparez Bowling Alley Nov. 10 to benefit multiple foster programs that Kids in Distress sponsors. Kids in Distress is a charity that focuses on the prevention of child abuse, preservation of the family and treatment of abused and neglected children.
Weeks before the party, children at Kids In Distress requested three presents they wanted. Pre-Law’s Director of Fundraising Sloane Kapit then made tags indicating the child’s name and the present he or she wanted. The tags were stuck onto paper Christmas tree and hat decorations which were placed on the bulletin board in the courtroom, allowing students to sign out which gift they wanted to purchase. The students brought their gift to the party as a ticket into the bowling party.
Around 80 members attended the party, and Pre-Law collected more than 150 gifts to donate to Kids in Distress for the holidays. At the party, students were offered refreshments, pizza and cake, and could bowl in one of the 15 lanes that Pre-Law rented out.
“Many officers and members stepped up by purchasing extra gifts for the kids, which is something I am extremely proud of,” Pre-Law president Madison Paez said.
The presents were picked up by two Kids in Distress workers Nov. 13, and the presents will be given out to the children at the multiple foster programs run by Kids in Distress on Christmas.
