Science Olympiad competes in the Yellow Jacket Invitational at Georgia Tech

The Science Olympiad Team departed for Georgia Tech Jan. 30. There, the seventh grade through freshman year team and the sophomore through senior year team competed in over 25 different events. In groups of two or three, students took tests, set up mechanisms and built models in an attempt to show what they knew.

The sophomore through senior team placed 5th overall out of 51 competing teams. The events they did best in are:

Bungee Drop, 3rd place: Max Callis, 10; Ryan Cheney, 10

Codebusters, 6th place: Kyra Movva 10; Maria Villarreal, 11; Arisa Porter, 10

Disease Detectives, 5th place: Emma Pudney, 12; Iris Fan, 12

Ecology, 6th place: Roshini Shivakumar, 12; Isabella Perry, 10

Forensics, 3rd place: Emily Wang, 12; Valerie Younes, 11

Fossils, 6th place: Doreen Li, 11; Alan Jith, 11

Geologic Mapping, 6th place: Andrew Lodin, 12; Kyra Movva, 10

Material Science, 5th place: Iris Fan, 12; Emily Wang, 12

Microbe Mission, 5th place: Iris Fan, 12; Valerie Younes, 11

Optics, 6th place: Henry Lecompte, 12; Maria Villarreal, 11

Dynamic Planet, 5th place: Alay Syed, 8; and Arjun Ravi, 8 

Ecology, 6th place: David Savenco, 8; Shengning Ma, 7

Fossils, 2nd place: Isabella Fierro Peralta, 8; Daniel Kaikov, 8

Fossils, 3rd place: Arjun Ravi, 8; Alay Syed, 8

Meteorology, 5th place: Adrika Hierholzer, 9; Demir Ozelcaglayan, 9
