Seniors enjoy ice cream to celebrate completed college applications

in News by

After a grueling first semester filled with supplemental essays, mock interviews and a plethora of guidance counselor meetings, seniors were able to unwind from the stress Jan. 22 with some ice cream.

Student Government Association (SGA) and the Parent teacher Organization (PTO) helped organize the event, providing fresh Ben & Jerry’s ice cream to seniors during fifth period. Flavors included Phish food, Strawberry Cheesecake, Cookies and Cream, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Half-Baked brownie ice cream.

Senior class president Matthew Ruiz worked with principal Mr. Osmel Rodriguez to organize the event. “I wanted to do something unique for seniors especially right after college apps, since it was a really grueling process. And I thought, who doesn’t like ice cream,” Ruiz said.

While the temperatures dropped to under 60˚ Fahrenheit, seniors still made their way for their special treat. “Even though the weather wasn’t ideal, we can’t plan for situations like this, and seniors were still able to take their ice cream inside to enjoy,” Ruiz said.

Seniors had their fifth period off and were able to enjoy an elongated lunch period in addition to their ice cream. More senior events, such as grad bash and senior carnival, are still to come.
