Teacher luncheon:
The high school SGA hosted a luncheon April 30 to acknowledge the hard work of teachers. During the event, SGA members served Publix subs, fruits, pastries and cookies to the teachers. “Teacher appreciation is an important aspect to school culture because they are who students interact with everyday. This has been the second year SGA has done a teacher appreciation luncheon,” sophomore SGA Event Chair Hillary Kowitt said.
Teacher Dress Up:
Students dressed up like their teachers May 2.Eleven students dressed up as English teacher Ms. Jessica Reeves. “It is flattering to see the kids choose to dress like me. They could dress like any other teacher and it would be easier than buying high heels, blonde wigs, tights, my specific sunglasses, and applying eyeliner the way I do every day. Some of these kids actually ordered shirts and skirts just like mine. I had so much fun with my kids that day,” Ms. Reeves said. Juniors Rachel Kessler and Jade Capella chose to dress like Mr. Gruskin. “Mr. Gruskin always has a distinct style with his casual fit – a polo and khaki pants,” junior Jade Capella said.

A theme is chosen for every teacher appreciation week event. The theme of this year’s week was “Wicked.” “I love the theme for this year and it was an honor to be a part of this appreciative lunch, and I wish we have this next year as well,” junior Ferrin Besong said.

Ms. Reeves sews or thrifts all the items in her wardrobe. “I don’t endorse fast fashion, so I never buy new pieces of clothing,” Ms. Reeves said. (Photo/Cara Xie).
