Sophomores celebrate the halfway mark of high school with pizza

The sophomore class of 2027 gathered on the back field Jan. 16 to celebrate the halfway point of high school. Sophomore class president Izyk Pombar and teacher representative Ms. Denise Roldan organized the event to get the students together to relax.

Being a sophomore comes with stress, challenges and new experiences, from finding their place in high school to meeting with college advisors in the spring. So, to help this stress Ms. Roldan and Izyk Pombar came up with the idea to have a fun pizza party during lunch. “For the students, it builds class comradery and school spirit. With the school day being so stressful, lunch should be a time to hang out, have fun and make new friends,” Ms. Roldan said.

The idea of school spirit and bringing sophomores together was a mutual idea of both Ms. Roldan and sophomore class president Pombar. “This type of event is important to bring up school spirit and bring sophomores together, and who doesn’t like pizza,” Pombar said. Students had a variety of options to do at the event such as eating pizza, chilling with friends and playing fun games like cornhole. “I feel that we are overlooked sometimes because we don’t have that many events or college preparations compared to juniors, so this kind of event really makes us feel appreciated and recognized,” sophomore Elizabeth Perez said.
