Stay out of the senior corner

in Opinion by

We’ve waited four years for the library limelight. Let us have our moment in the sun.

Much too often, underclassmen infiltrate the senior corner and computers and give snarky remarks when asked to leave. Instead of serving as a place for the stressed out college applicants to regroup, relax and get work done, the corner has turned into a game of “guess who’s a freshman.”

As seniors, we know what it’s like to impatiently stand waiting for an available computer for more than 30 minutes and try to maintain calm and focused on work while everyone whispers around the tables. Although some underclassmen may find this unfair, the argument proves unfounded as they’ll one day have the opportunity to sit in those seats, preferably as actual seniors.

“In my opinion, the senior corner is a privilege. There are several underclassmen that sit in that area, and I find it obnoxious. They have the entire remainder of the library. Let us have our little corner,” senior D’Kota Cassidy said.

Even worse, some underclassmen have been found using senior computers. Out of the 32 computers in the library,  the senior class claims two of them. Therefore, underclassmen have no reason to use these computers when numerous other computers are available.

However, the struggle for the senior section continues on as underclassmen wander where they don’t belong.

While freshmen, sophomores and juniors may enjoy the senior corner, many believe seniors have a right to their long awaited territory.

“It’s their corner; they’ve waiting long enough. I’ll get my chance in two years,” sophomore Camila Ayala said.

If underclassmen cannot respect the boundaries, seniors will continue to ask them to leave and win. This is our year, and nothing’s going to change that.
