Support for seniors as the college app process begins

in News by

Besides the school year rapidly approaching, seniors have another big stress factor to pencil in: college applications. As of Aug. 1, Common App is open and available to manage applications.

To help relieve tension, the college advising department has some resources for seniors to take advantage of:

  1. Jump Start

Heritage already hosted one session of jump start (click here for Emma’s article on the first session) and is hosting another Aug. 8-9. These sessions cover the topics of financial aid, merit-based scholarships, the college essay, applying to in-state schools, the college interview and supplemental essays. Click here for more information on the upcoming August sessions.

  1. Fall App Lab

The Summer App Lab sessions are complete, but starting Sept. 1 the college advising department is offering the Fall App Lab. Here, students can “drop in” for help with their college applications, whether that be asking questions, writing essays or filling out the general application. Seniors can click here for more.

  1. Make an appointment with your counselor

The college advising counselors are here to help, so use them to your advantage. All advisors are available for you to schedule an appointment with, so reach out to them if you have any personalized questions or concerns. You can also reach out to the college essay specialist at [email protected].

Zoe Horwitz, a junior at American Heritage, returns to the Patriot Post for her third year as the Sports Editor and Assistant Editor-In-Chief. Besides reading and writing, she spends her time playing with her dog or tutoring younger students through Learn with Peers, a non-profit organization she helped found in 2020. During her freshman year, she co-founded FALIA (Food Allergy/Intolerance Awareness) at school, a club that advocates for those with food allergies. Zoe also plays lacrosse, as she plays for a club team and American Heritage girls varsity lacrosse team. Zoe is very excited to be contributing to the Patriot Post.
