The Meyers-Briggs personality test, or MBTI, was developed by a mother-daughter duo in the mid-twentieth century, and has grown to be one of the most used personality and behavior analysis tools.
The first part of the test, the Mind Trait, judges how we interact with our environment. The letter options are E and I, standing for Extraverted, meaning people who prefer being around other people or in wide social situations, and Introverted, meaning people who prefer being in solitude and having time to recharge.
The second section, or the Energy Trait, explains where we direct our energy. The options are N or S, standing for Intuitive or Observant. Intuitives are said to have a more imaginative outlook, with abstract and innovative ideas, while people with the observant trait tend to focus their energy to more practical or detail-oriented pursuits, and have a more grounded view on life.
The third letter of the MBTI is either T or F, standing for Thinking or Feeling. This letter stands for how people make decisions, either with their head or with their heart.
The final letter of the main test is how people deal with the world, Judging or Prospecting (J or P). People who fall under the category of Judging prefer to make clear decisions and structure, meanwhile people who are Prospecting prefer freedom and the ability to be spontaneous.
Identity is a minor trait that does not affect someone’s personality type, but rather gives more insight into that individual as a whole. The two options are -A or -T. -A stands for Assertive, or people who are goal-motivated and stress resistant, while -T stands for turbulent, or people who are stress-motivated and success driven.
