Even if you don’t know who Jojo Siwa is, you’ve probably seen her face somewhere, from dolls to bedding to backpacks to even underwear; even her car and toilet have her face plastered all over it. Siwa, someone known by many tween girls for her hair bows and high ponytails, has recently become even more popular.
Siwa became famous after her debut on the reality shows “Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition” and “Dance Moms.” Siwa left “Dance Moms” in its sixth season and continued her career by creating songs and content for her YouTube channel. She began selling her signature bow in 2016, and sales quickly soared: over $400 million has been made off of these bows alone. Siwa later signed with Nickelodeon in 2017, starring on many of its shows and becoming a Nickelodeon brand name.
One of the main factors for the former Dance Moms star’s recent gain in popularity is her sexuality. Siwa came out as part of the LGBTQ+ community in January 2021 through a TikTok video singing Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way.” She followed up a few days later saying that she’s “the happiest [she’s] ever been.”
Since then, Siwa has done a lot. She participated in season 30 of “Dancing With the Stars” (DWTS) and was half of the show’s first same-sex couple along with her professional partner, Jenna Johnson Chmerkovskiy. The duo placed second, symbolically dancing to “Born This Way” in the finale last November.
Recently, Jojo and her mother, Jessalynn Siwa, decided to create a girl pop group and start the television show “Siwa’s Dance Pop Revolution.” The girls on the show sang and danced until the final group, named XOMG POP, was made. The final group consists of seven girls aged 10-14. XOMG POP includes Kiya Barczyszyn, Brooklynn Pitts, Leigha Rose Sanderson, Dallas Skye Gatson, Kinley Cunningham, Tamara “Tinie T” Andreasyan and Bella Cianni Llerena.
XOMG POP has already created and filmed a music video for their first single, Candy Hearts. They performed the song on the Ellen Show and have accounts on social media platforms, including Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.
Jojo Siwa is now going on her D.R.E.A.M The Tour, where she is performing across the country. This tour was originally scheduled for May 2020, but it was pushed to the summer of 2021 and is now taking place this year from Jan. 13 to Mar. 12. XOMG POP is also performing their single at Siwa’s tour.
Siwa seems to be looking forward to performing for her fans. According to People, Jojo said, “Performing has always made me super happy. But for the first time, personally, I am like, whoa, happiness. I am so proud to be me.”
