Winter sports are approaching

in Sports by

It may not be cold yet in Plantation, but winter sports are still coming up.

Sports at Heritage are organized into three seasons: fall, winter and spring. While fall sports are at their peak currently, the athletic department is beginning to prepare for winter sports. This includes basketball, soccer, wrestling, ice hockey and cheerleading for the basketball team.

Last year was a historic year for the Patriots as girls soccer and girls basketball took home state championship rings in their respective sports. Can they do it again this year? We will soon find out.

Most winter sports have information meetings within the next month, so it’s important for students planning to participate to stay informed.

Per Mrs. Armiento and the rest of the athletic department, here’s what you need to know:

To play a sport, athletes must complete the FHSAA sports physical exam form EL2 (new version dated April 24, 2024) and have it signed by a doctor. Additionally, they need to submit the FHSAA Consents and Concussion Forms EL3 (dated March 23, 2024). These forms are separate from the Florida Dept. of Health forms required by the school nurse.

Last year, the varsity girls soccer team won the state championship for the second year in a row, making them back-to-back champs. This year, the team aims for a “three-peat,” meaning they win states for the third consecutive year. (Photos/Zoe Horwitz)
