From the release of “Barbie” to the sequel of “Avatar,” 2023 has been an eventful year for movies. With new movies comes new trends, and for this year’s Halloween, various costume ideas were pulled from these movies.
Barbie:
Since its release, “Barbie” has made 1.4 billion dollars, making it this year’s highest-grossing movie. The take on the classic Barbie doll starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling has over 40 costumes, and there is a variety to choose from. In the opening montage of the movie, Barbie is seen wearing a pink gingham dress, a reference to vintage Barbie dolls. This costume can be found on Amazon. When Barbie goes into the human world she dons a tie-dye one piece with hot pink shorts and rollerblades. All pieces of this costume can be found in stores such as Amazon for the one piece and Lululemon for the shorts. Barbie eventually leaves behind her tie-dye attire and changes into a pink top and pants combo, along with a cowboy hat. This can be found in websites such as Amazon.
Avatar 2:
The sequel of the 2009 movie, “Avatar” was released on December 16, 2022. With over 148.6 views it has become one of the most viewed movies of 2023. The dark blue characters may not have the most human appearance, but they can certainly be recreated as a costume for this Halloween. On Amazon, there are a variety of Avatar costumes – bodysuits for each character. You can choose your favorite character from the movie and dress up as them.
Super Mario:
Released in early April, “The Super Mario Bros Movie” has become one of the most viewed movies in 2023. If you are a video game lover or just a fan of the movie, there are many costumes the characters wear that can be found at any local costume store or on online websites. If you want a more pastel look for this Halloween, the character Princess Peach could be your costume. On Amazon, you can find her pink dress and crown to wear for this Halloween. If you are interested in being Mario, then you can put together some overalls and a red shirt along with a Mario hat and some gloves. If you are more interested in being Marios’ friend Luigi, you can put together a green shirt and overalls along with a Luigi hat and some gloves. The two of them could also make a great costume for a duo.
Little Mermaid (Live Action):
In the remake of the classic Disney film, “The Little Mermaid” there are many parts of the film similar to the original, but some which are more unique to the new movie. One of the big changes was Ariel’s dress she wore on her first excursion to the villages on land. In the original movie, she wore a dark blue corset over a two-toned blue dress. In the new film, Ariel is dressed in a light blue maxi dress during her first excursion. It can be found on Amazon and other websites or found in clothing stores and is a great way to reference the newer Ariel.
