Juniors prepare for the junior dance

For the first time, the school will host a special dance, exclusively for Heritage juniors. The “Junior Dance” will take place in April and serve as an opportunity for juniors to celebrate their accomplishments as well as spend time with their friends before heading into their final year of high school.

Junior class president Matthew Ruiz is the man behind the initiative. “I went to an internship over the summer and met a lot of students. It came up a lot that a bunch of them had junior dances and I was so surprised since we don’t have that,” Ruiz said.

At the start of the school year, he sat down with junior class advisor Mrs. Jessica Miliffe and Principal Osmel Rodriguez to discuss the plans for the upcoming year. “[Mr. Rodriguez] seemed to like the idea of the junior dance, and he said that he would pass it through administration. After a few weeks, he actually pulled me aside and confirmed to me that it was approved.”

As of right now, there is no official date but the dance will take place in the student center after spring break but before the senior prom, April 13. The theme is yet to be decided but the dress code is “dressy-casual.”

In the meantime, both Mr. Rodriguez and Ruiz encourage juniors to get involved with planning the dance. “Juniors can get involved by sending me or Mr. Rodriguez any ideas they may have,” said Ruiz. “I definitely want more student participation,” Mr. Rodriguez added. “That’s going to ensure that people go. We want it to become part of our annual traditions with our juniors.”
